Sundsvall
Sundsvall's urban planning committee handled the detailed plan for Vattjom 2:42 and Söderåsen 2:6 at Almåsen ahead of adoption on 21 October 2026. The plan covers about 42 hectares next to SCA's Töva timber terminal and is aimed at power-intensive uses; the plan description names data centres as an example. According to SVT the committee proposed that the municipal council adopt the plan on 30 November 2026. In February 2026 the municipality announced that Verda Cloud Oy is establishing an AI centre outside central Sundsvall. No megawatt figure has been published.
The plan was produced on private initiative by Zoningpartners North AB, which received a positive planning decision in autumn 2025. Correctional-facility use was removed after consultation. Permitted uses are industry, business and technical facilities, with a maximum building area of 45 per cent and a ridge height of 20 metres. Two 220 kV transmission lines and a 130 kV line run south of the area.
The municipal plan documents do not name an operator. SVT links the plan to Verda's AI centre. The officers' report states that operation-specific assessment belongs to environmental permitting of a concrete establishment, and the municipal executive office notes that cooling-water needs are not investigated.
