Electricity areas
Sweden has four bidding areas: SE1 Luleå, SE2 Sundsvall, SE3 Stockholm and SE4 Malmö. They exist so transmission constraints show up in the wholesale price. They do not allocate spare megawatts to a cadastral unit. In May 2026 the government expanded Svenska kraftnät’s assignment to analyse alternative divisions, with reporting due 29 January 2027. That work is not a connection offer.

How to read the four areas
A project in Luleå or Boden sits in SE1. Gävle and Sandviken sit in SE2. Stockholm and Falun sit in SE3. Staffanstorp and Falkenberg sit in SE4. Those assignments follow the official area names, not a DataCenterSweden score.
Price differences between areas can be large or small depending on the hour. A cheap hour in SE1 does not prove that a new hall can connect next year.
Open review, not a done deal
An EU-wide review reported in April 2025 did not propose changing Sweden’s four areas. The government later asked Svenska kraftnät for a renewed national analysis, expanded in May 2026. Until that work concludes and any legal change is made, SE1–SE4 remain the operative areas.
