Svenska kraftnät signs SEK 3.38bn Uppsala grid contract; it is not a site connection

A signed construction contract moves the Uppsala package toward delivery, with work planned from 2027. The transmission project is a long-term regional reinforcement, not a connection offer or new capacity allocation for an individual data-centre site.
Svenska kraftnät announced on 6 October 2026 that it had signed a SEK 3.38 billion contract with Croatia’s Dalekovod for the Uppsala package. The scope covers four new transmission lines between Mehedeby in Tierp Municipality and Odensala in Sigtuna Municipality, plus removal of 160 kilometres of older lines. The authority’s release describes two parallel 400 kV overhead lines of about 100 kilometres and two 220 kV lines over about three kilometres.
The contract changes the project’s delivery status: procurement has become a signed execution contract. Svenska kraftnät’s project update dated 7 October says construction is planned to start near Odensala in early 2027, then progress north. Three of the four line sections have permits; the government decision for Mehedeby–Jälla remains outstanding. The signed scope therefore does not mean every route has every required permit.
The published schedule is not expressed identically across Svenska kraftnät’s own notices. The 6 October contract release says commissioning is planned in stages from 2029 to 2031. The 7 October project update says stages are planned to enter service from 2028 to 2032, with all lines complete by 2032. HRT, citing Hina and Dalekovod, also reports completion by 2032. The sources do not explain the difference between the two Svenska kraftnät date ranges, so a site team should not turn either range into a connection date.
For data-centre developers, the package matters as a regional transmission investment within the wider NordSyd programme. It does not state that a particular data centre is connected to these lines, reserve capacity for a site, or give an energisation date for a local distribution network. Svenska kraftnät’s broader statement that NordSyd is intended to increase transfer between SE2 and SE3 describes the programme, not spare capacity at a property.
The practical next step is to ask the relevant grid owner for a written, location-specific view of the proposed site’s connection path, required network works, milestones and dependencies. Keep transmission investment, a regional-network offer, a signed connection agreement, reserved capacity and an energised data hall as separate evidence points. The existing grid-connection guide explains what each stage can and cannot establish.
Why it matters
A signed transmission contract is a real delivery milestone, but the unresolved schedule and missing site-specific connection evidence still matter more to a developer’s time-to-power plan.
What remains unknown
The cited notices do not reconcile their staged commissioning ranges, identify a data-centre connection to the package, or establish reserved or energised capacity for any site.
