Interpreting grid capacity
Capacity words travel badly between press releases. Indicative map capacity, an application in a queue, a reservation, a signed allocation and an energized load are five states. They use the same megawatt unit. They are not the same fact. DataCenterSweden stores operator MW figures with their wording and will not add a campus design envelope to a commissioned building total.
General orientation. Assess the specific project separately. Applies to: Readers assessing Swedish power, grid connection or electricity cost — not a substitute for a network-owner answer.
Labels used in this register
Unknown values stay unknown. They are never stored as zero.
- IT power — load at IT equipment, when the source says so.
- Facility or site power — operator wording for the hall or campus.
- Utility power — wording tied to the grid supply.
- Announced capacity, definition unclear — MW without a usable split.
Maps have edges
The transmission capacity map is a national indicative layer. It is useful for asking better questions. It is the wrong artefact to paste into a land brochure as “100 MW available”.
