UPS topology on a Nordic grid — a VFI label is not a TSO frequency bar
Is the next paper a UPS performance class, or have you only been handed a slide that says “Nordic grid, therefore online”? SS-EN 62040-3, confirmed by SEK Svensk Elstandard on 15 February 2012 as edition 2, contains the official English text of EN 62040-3:2011 / IEC 62040-3:2011. The standard applies to movable, stationary and fixed electronic uninterruptible power systems that deliver single- or three-phase fixed-frequency alternating-current output not exceeding 1 000 V AC and that incorporate an energy storage system, generally connected through a direct-current link. A note in the same standard says it is aimed at 50 hertz and 60 hertz applications. Its efficiency annex classifies equipment under the labels VFI, VI and VFD. Those are the standard’s own classification codes. They are not a Swedish hall topology statute. Svenska kraftnät’s Article 127 page publishes defined parameters and target parameters for frequency quality under the System Operation Guideline; Energimarknadsinspektionen approved those parameters on 7 March 2019 and records the article as approved on 11 April 2019. That is a TSO frequency-quality paper. It is not a UPS purchase order. The backup-generation and battery-versus-diesel pages already own on-site machines. This page only asks which published UPS object the Nordic-topology slogan is sitting on.

Reading order
Name the machine class before you name a topology slogan. SS-EN 62040-3 is a method of specifying performance and test requirements for a complete UPS, not for individual functional units. The voltage ceiling in the scope is 1 000 V AC. A customer hall UPS, a network-owner station battery and a transmission-class reserve sit in different families. The standard’s 50 hertz and 60 hertz note is an application aim. It is not a Swedish mandate that every hall use one labelled class.
Then name the classification object. The efficiency annex of the same standard groups equipment under VFI, VI and VFD. Those codes are the published labels on the SEK preview used here. This page will not invent a Swedish expansion of those codes beyond what that preview prints, and it will not treat a vendor brochure that says “online double conversion” as the standard text.
Then keep the TSO frequency-quality clock on its own row. Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/1485 is the System Operation Guideline already used in this register. Svenska kraftnät’s Article 127 page and Energimarknadsinspektionen’s SO page are the Swedish frequency-quality door. Approved parameters are a TSO operating-security paper. They are not a hall UPS class and not a factory confirmation for a named Swedish plot.

What a UPS class and a frequency-quality clock actually measure
SS-EN 62040-3 is useful here because it refuses a single world topology and because it is a performance-and-test method, not a Swedish building rule. SEK confirmed edition 2 on 15 February 2012. CENELEC approved EN 62040-3 on 18 April 2011. The Swedish edition contains the official English version. The scope sentence about 1 000 V AC and the 50 hertz and 60 hertz note stay attached to that letterhead. They do not convert a detaljplan into a UPS, and they do not convert a UPS into a detaljplan.
The efficiency annex’s VFI, VI and VFD labels stay labels. The preview used here prints those codes in efficiency tables. It does not, in the text retrieved for this page, print a Swedish hall mandate that one label is required on a Nordic grid. A later vendor sentence that expands the codes is a vendor sentence. This page does not import it.
Svenska kraftnät’s Article 127 page measures something else. It publishes defined parameters and target parameters for frequency quality. Energimarknadsinspektionen approved the parameters on 7 March 2019. Ei’s SO page records Article 127 as approved on 11 April 2019 and says the SO regulation sets minimum requirements on transmission-system operators for operational security and frequency quality. Those are TSO operating-security sentences. They are not a UPS classification and not a named Swedish hall topology.
Regulation (EU) 2017/1485 remains the Union system-operation door already used on the transformer-spares page. The Nordic operational-security annex remains a TSO restoration paper. Neither source, in the files used here, publishes a national data-centre UPS calendar or a required VFI cell.
What named primary sources show
SEK’s SS-EN 62040-3 preview remains the dated Swedish-standard source. Keep the 15 February 2012 confirmation, the EN/IEC 2011 text, the 1 000 V AC ceiling, the 50 hertz and 60 hertz aim and the VFI, VI and VFD classification labels attached to that file.
Svenska kraftnät’s Article 127 page and Energimarknadsinspektionen’s SO page remain the dated frequency-quality sources. Keep the March and April 2019 approval stamps on the TSO row. Do not paste them onto a customer UPS.
Regulation (EU) 2017/1485 remains the Union operating-security door. No cited source here publishes a required UPS class for a named Swedish hall.
A matrix instead of a Nordic-topology slogan
Draw one page with object rows and evidence columns. Standard class, TSO frequency-quality parameter and on-site backup machine are different rows. Scope, label, approval date and purchase order are different columns. Empty cells stay empty. A VFI label is a standard footnote, not a Nordic mandate column.
Do not invent a Swedish hall UPS league from the 50 hertz aim or from Article 127’s approval stamp. Those remain different objects.

Common misreads
The first misread is to treat the 50 hertz aim in SS-EN 62040-3 as a rule that a Swedish hall must buy one labelled class. The note is an application aim. The second is to treat a VFI, VI or VFD table heading as a Nordic statute. The third is to treat a vendor “online” slogan as the standard text.
The fourth is to paste Article 127’s frequency-quality parameters onto a customer UPS. The fifth is to treat Ei’s approval stamp as a hall purchase order. The sixth is to collapse UPS class into backup generation. The seventh is to invent a national UPS census.
What to ask next
Ask which UPS, at which voltage, sits on which side of the point of connection, and which SS-EN 62040-3 label — if any — the manufacturer actually declares. Ask whether anyone is quoting a TSO frequency-quality parameter or a customer machine. Ask which backup paper you already hold.
Then open the backup-generation page, the battery-versus-diesel page and the transformer-spares page. If the operator will not name the class and the order state, record the gap. Do not fill it from a Nordic-topology slide.

What this does and does not prove
This page proves that Sweden already publishes SS-EN 62040-3 as a performance-and-test method with VFI, VI and VFD labels and a 50 hertz and 60 hertz aim, and that Svenska kraftnät already publishes an Article 127 frequency-quality paper approved by Energimarknadsinspektionen in 2019.
It does not prove which class a named Swedish hall bought. It does not invent a Nordic UPS mandate. It does not treat a TSO frequency parameter as a customer purchase order.
Empty cells stay empty. Until a later primary source names a Swedish hall’s UPS with a dated class declaration and a voltage, the topology clock stays a method, not a census.
