Types of data centers

A Swedish hall can be a retail colocation building, a cloud availability zone, an owner-occupied campus, or a development aimed at AI training. Those are commercial and technical patterns. They are not mutually exclusive stamps. AWS Europe (Stockholm) is a cloud region with unpublished municipal pins. Bahnhof Pionen is an inner-city colocation hall. EcoDataCenter Falun is a campus that the operator also markets for HPC and AI. Use more than one word.

Dimensions, not a taxonomy war

This register does not force a single exclusive type field that would mislabel mixed campuses.

  • Who owns the IT load.
  • Who operates the building.
  • Whether retail customers share the hall.
  • Whether the public cloud region is the product.
  • Whether the design target is high-density compute.
