Tranemo sends Magnora's data-centre land request in Limmared back for further preparation

Tranemo municipal executive committee on 15 October 2026 referred back a case on selling about 35,000 square metres of industrial land on part of Limmared 1:6 to Magnora for a data centre. The case goes to the general committee for further preparation "to enable an establishment". No land agreement has been decided.
The decision is item 203 in the executive committee's minutes of 15 October 2026, case KS/2026:415. The administration had proposed a land allocation agreement giving Magnora the chance to investigate an establishment. The committee instead referred it back to the general committee. The minutes are posted 19 October to 10 November.
According to the officer's report of 16 September, Magnora wants to acquire part of Limmared 1:6, north of Primo, about 35,000 square metres. The area already has a detailed plan for industry.
The report says the company has had indications from Vattenfall of grid capacity of up to 50 MW. The administration has delegated authority for a sale of that size but sent the case to the committee because of the large power demand. The main purpose is a data centre; depending on final capacity it could become an AI centre or similar. The report gives 20 to 50 jobs and a construction period of about two years.
The company submission in the papers, from Magnora Data Center Sweden AB, is dated September 2026. It states 50 MW of connected power to Vattenfall's regional grid, 35 MW of liquid-cooled IT load, a single-storey data hall of about 6,000 square metres and its own 130 kV receiving station.
The company says an application to Vattenfall for 50 MW has been filed, construction is planned for the second half of 2028 and operation for 2030, and the investment is estimated at SEK 4 to 6 billion excluding IT equipment. These are the company's figures, not the municipality's assessment.
Why it matters
The municipality has not agreed to sell land, but chose further preparation over rejection. The site already has an industrial detailed plan, so power and land terms are the open questions. It is the first project in Västra Götaland County in the register.
What remains unknown
Whether and when the general committee and the executive committee approve a land allocation agreement is not known. Vattenfall's connection decision, the land price, any customer and a confirmed timetable are not in the municipal documents.
