Mistral AI and EcoDataCenter announce a €1.2 billion Borlänge partnership; 2027 is a schedule, not a hall

On 11 February 2026 Mistral AI and EcoDataCenter said they would invest €1.2 billion in Swedish digital infrastructure through a partnership to build an AI-focused data center at EcoDataCenter’s Borlänge site, scheduled to open in 2027. The primary notice does not publish a megawatt figure. An investment intention is not commissioning.

EcoDataCenter’s 11 February 2026 notice is the dated primary source used here. It says Mistral AI and EcoDataCenter announced a strategic, long-term investment of €1.2 billion in Sweden’s digital infrastructure through a partnership to build an AI-focused data center at EcoDataCenter’s Borlänge site. It says the facility is scheduled to open in 2027 and will support the development and operation of Mistral’s next-generation models. Those are partnership and schedule sentences.

The same notice assigns roles. Mistral will deploy large-scale AI compute at EcoDataCenter’s facilities in Sweden and describes the step as its first AI-infrastructure investment outside France. EcoDataCenter will design, build and operate the underlying infrastructure, using renewable energy and advanced cooling. The data center will host NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs. Hardware and operator roles are useful. They do not create a megawatt observation.

The €1.2 billion figure is an announced investment envelope. The notice does not split land, building, power, IT equipment, financing or later phases. It should not be treated as money already spent or as a cost benchmark for Falun. Falun’s 2025 annual report remains the dated source for commissioned C and D and for the 41 MW sentence. Borlänge is a different project row.

Secondary articles have published campus megawatt figures for Borlänge that do not appear in the 11 February partnership notice cited here. This article does not import those figures. If EcoDataCenter later publishes a dated capacity definition for Borlänge, that source can open a metric row. Until then the public partnership file supports a named site, a customer, a schedule year and an investment intention.

A plan case is not the Mistral contract and not a commissioning event. Keep the plan identity, the partnership notice and any later construction source on separate lines.

For a buyer the next questions are legal-entity and document questions. Which EcoDataCenter entity is the landlord or builder? What foreign-investment screening analysis applies to the structure? What is the current plan and permit position? What has the network owner written? If 2027 is being treated as a delivery year, which source documents opening?

DataCenterSweden records the 11 February 2026 notice against the Borlänge project as a reported partnership and development event. It does not add a megawatt, does not mark the hall operational, and does not fold Borlänge into Falun’s 41 MW row. The useful reading is a named AI-campus intention with an open power cell.

Why it matters

A named European AI lab plus a Swedish operator is a real development signal. It remains unusable as a capacity comparable until a source states a megawatt boundary.

The 11 February notice does not publish a Borlänge megawatt figure, a grid paper, a construction-start date or an operating result.
