Hultsfred's municipal executive committee approved a letter of intent with Magnora Project Infra 2 AB on 1 September 2026. It covers an investigation into a data centre on Verktyget 4 and 5 and part of Hultsfred 3:1 in the Nyhagen industrial area. No land sale has been decided. The developer pays for further studies first.

Item 108 in the minutes of Hultsfred's municipal executive committee of 1 September 2026 (case 2026/208) records the decision. The committee approved the letter of intent between the municipality and Magnora Project Infra 2 AB on investigating a data centre on the properties Verktyget 4 and 5 and part of Hultsfred 3:1 in the Nyhagen industrial area. It also tasked its working committee with approving or rejecting step 1 of the letter of intent before step 2 may begin. The minutes were approved and posted on 3 September. The notice came down on 29 September.

According to the minutes, the company contacted the municipality in spring 2026. The municipality reviewed the company's material against its own checklist, circulated it internally, took references on the developer and its earlier projects, and held close talks with the grid owner E.ON. Its conclusion is that it should stay positive to testing the project. It should not take a position on a land sale that uses grid capacity until the effects on existing businesses, the project's feasibility and the local benefit have been verified.

The letter of intent is set up in two steps. Step 1 is used to work out the conditions for a step 2, ahead of any sale. Step 2 may begin only after a separate decision by the working committee. Further studies are to be paid for by the developer. Under the minutes, a sale decision would have to go to the municipal council, since it exceeds the delegated amount limits.

The minutes put the area at about 70,000 square metres. At the municipality's earlier price for industrial land, SEK 50 per square metre, a deal would bring in about SEK 3.5 million.

The minutes also describe the pressure on the municipality. Requests for data-centre projects have risen sharply over the past 12 to 18 months, and at most the municipality had five requests at the same time. When the decision was taken, two cases were being prepared. There is also an earlier agreement on access to land for surveys by national road 34 in the southern part of Hultsfred town (working committee item 227/2025).

The decision was taken in September; DataCenterSweden has now fetched the minutes from the municipality's website and added the project to the register. The minutes give no power capacity, investment figure or timetable for the Nyhagen data centre. The agenda for the executive committee's meeting on 27 October 2026 contains no data-centre item.

Why it matters

The letter of intent gives the developer a mandate to investigate, not land. The municipality has tied any future sale to grid capacity and to the effect on existing businesses. It is the first project in Kalmar County in the register.

What remains unknown

The full text of the letter of intent, the data centre's power capacity, grid connection and connection date, the investment size, the timetable and whether the working committee has approved step 1 are not public in the municipal documents.
