Falu Energi & Vatten names EcoDC as a pellet-drying heat source; that is not a Stockholm megawatt-hour

Falu Energi & Vatten’s pellets page, updated 11 November 2025, says the heat used to dry pellets comes from industrial surplus heat in Borlänge, the Ingarvet combined-heat-and-power plant, and EcoDC. EcoDataCenter’s Falun site page describes surplus energy turned into fuel via the CHP plant. Those are municipal-utility and operator heat sentences. They are not a measured Falun megawatt-hour ledger and not a Stockholm Exergi contract.

Falu Energi & Vatten’s pellets page is the dated municipal-utility source used here. It says the utility manufactures pellets from local sawmill feedstock at a factory beside its combined-heat-and-power plant. The heat used to dry the pellets is surplus heat from industry in Borlänge, from the Ingarvet CHP plant, and from EcoDC. Summer heat is stored as pellets for winter. Those sentences name EcoDC as one of three heat sources for a drying process. They do not publish a megawatt, a megawatt-hour or a start date.

EcoDataCenter’s Falun site page supports the same relationship in operator language. It says the site is connected to Falun’s CHP plant and transforms surplus energy into fuel by producing pellets. That is a described recovery path. It is not a measured annual volume and not a household-equivalent table. The same page’s 80 MW available-power sentence remains a separate observation, already stored on the Falun project. Do not convert pellets into 80 MW of delivered heat.

The municipal utility’s wording also prevents a lazy national heat market. Borlänge industrial surplus, Ingarvet CHP and EcoDC are three sources on one Falun pellets page. They are not Stockholm Exergi, not Falkenberg Energi, and not a Horndal readiness sentence. District-heating networks are local. A pellet factory is not a radiator in Kista.

Delivery versus ambition still matters. An older SVT interview, not used as a primary metric source here, recorded that sending the same water into the district-heating network had been difficult because temperatures did not match. The FEV page used here does not retract or confirm that interview. This article therefore stores pellet drying as the utility’s current public use-case and leaves a direct district-heating volume unknown.

Falun’s capacity file stays on its own rows. The 2025 annual report’s 41 MW commissioned sentence, the later 65 MW E/F expectation, and the 80 MW available-power page are not heat deliveries. The June 2026 Fortum PPA is a power-matching paper. None of those documents becomes a pellet tonne.

For a buyer the next questions are contractual and metered. Is there a heat-sale contract, and for which buildings? What temperature leaves the hall? For which period is a volume measured? Is pellet drying the only offtake, or is there a winter district-heating path? If those papers are missing, the honest label is described recovery — not a city heating claim.

DataCenterSweden records the November 2025 FEV page against the Falun project as a municipally stated heat-use sentence. It does not invent a Falun megawatt-hour total and does not copy the pellet path onto Stockholm or Smedjebacken.

Why it matters

A municipal utility that names EcoDC as a pellet-heat source is stronger evidence than a brochure adjective. It is still not a measured city heating ledger.

What remains unknown

The FEV page does not publish a heat volume, a contract start date, a temperature or a district-heating megawatt-hour for EcoDC.
