VivoPower’s 6 July 2026 Mo i Rana paper is a BESS feasibility study, not an installed battery

On 6 July 2026 VivoPower said it is progressing a formal technical and commercial feasibility study for a battery energy storage system at its 41.5 MW Mo i Rana data center in northern Norway. Any investment decision remains subject to the study, board approval, tenant consultation and Norwegian grid approvals. A study is not a commissioned BESS and not a Swedish megawatt.
VivoPower’s 6 July 2026 exhibit filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is the dated operator source used here. It says the company is progressing a formal feasibility study for BESS integration at the Mo i Rana data center. The study is targeting incremental annualized EBITDA of up to approximately USD 4 million from BESS-enabled participation in additional Nordic reserve markets. Targeting, up to and approximately are the issuer’s words. They are not a booked 2026 result.
Two site figures must stay on their own lines. The hall is described as a 41.5 MW data center in bidding zone NO4. A neighbouring sentence refers to a current 12 MW FCR-D enrolment and to unlocking additional volume without affecting tenant service levels. Twelve megawatts of reserve enrolment is not 41.5 MW of IT load and not a battery rating. The notice does not publish a BESS megawatt or megawatt-hour size. This article will not invent one.
The governance paragraph is the load-bearing caveat. The study will assess electrical headroom at the existing point of connection, transformer and switchgear capacity, protection coordination, metering, the Statnett prequalification pathway and the interaction with tenant SLAs. Any investment decision is subject to completion of the study, board approval, tenant consultation and applicable Norwegian regulatory and grid-connection approvals. Named Nordic battery and hall rows stay separate. Saft’s 2023 Microsoft Sweden BESS delivery, Fingrid’s signed storage-agreement totals and Ingrid Capacity’s Swedish grid batteries are different issuers and sites. Mo i Rana does not become those papers. Forty-one point five megawatts in NO4 does not become Hamre, Horndal or a Danish pause.
DataCenterSweden records 6 July 2026 as a Norwegian BESS-at-hall feasibility notice. No Swedish project identifier is attached. The next update would need a later primary source that names an investment decision, a rating or an energization. Until then, the battery stays a study object beside a 41.5 MW site sentence.
Why it matters
A BESS headline on a named Nordic hall is easy to file as installed flexibility. The July exhibit is usable only if 41.5 MW stays the site sentence, 12 MW stays reserve enrolment, and the battery stays subject to a study.
What remains unknown
The exhibit does not publish a BESS rating, a final investment decision, a Statnett prequalification or a Swedish site.
