Varde’s Tinghøj and Lunde vote is a conditional local-plan start, not reserved Jutland hall power

Varde Municipality’s Microsoft page says the council on 24 June 2026 started local-plan work for Tinghøj and Lunde only if a neighbour-dialogue and compensation note arrives by 30 September 2026. A conditional start is not a building permit and not reserved offtake.

Varde Municipality’s Microsoft page, fetched with the 24 June 2026 council row, is the dated campus source used here. It says Microsoft wants a new Danish data-centre region with sites in Varde and Esbjerg municipalities. On 11 December 2025 Varde received local-plan applications for two areas: north of Tinghøj and between Lunde and Nørre Nebel. On 24 June the council decided to start work on a local plan and a municipal-plan supplement for those areas. The start is conditional on a satisfactory account of how Microsoft will talk with the local area and compensate neighbours within 500 metres of the building field, due by 30 September 2026. A conditional plan start is not a granted plan.

The land sentence must stay a land sentence. The page says Microsoft has bought about 150 hectares on Ringkøbingvej north of Tinghøj and about 79 hectares on Kastkærvej between Lunde and Nørre Nebel, and that agreements with landowners in the project areas are in place. A later design update on the same page reduces the halls from six to five at Tinghøj and from four to three at Lunde, with two-storey halls up to 23 metres and the two halls nearest Tinghøj village at one storey of 11.5 metres. Combined building height can reach 32 metres. Those are application figures. They are not a reserved megawatt.

The timetable sentence must stay a timetable sentence. The page writes that a first construction stage can begin after authority approvals in the second half of 2027 or in 2028, with expected operation around 2030 — provided all permits and energy availability are approved. Microsoft’s job estimates — 1,200 to 1,400 jobs per construction site and 500 jobs across three centres in Bramming, Tinghøj and Lunde once in operation — stay estimates. Heat reuse is written as a dialogue with local energy companies, not as a signed district-heat contract. A 2030 operation row that depends on energy availability is not reserved offtake.

Named neighbouring papers stay neighbouring papers. Varde’s Krageris plan proposals, Energinet’s large-connection pause, Arelion’s Nørre Nebel fibre note and the reserved-connection tables stay on their own files. This article does not merge Tinghøj and Lunde with Krageris, and it does not import a Jutland hall reservation into a conditional June vote.

The next update would need a later primary source that names a received compensation note, an adopted local plan, a reserved offtake or a construction permit. Until then, the two sites stay a conditional planning start — not reserved west-Jutland hall capacity.

Why it matters

A Microsoft Jutland headline with two named villages is easy to file as spare hall power. The June vote is usable only if the local-plan start stays conditional.

What remains unknown

The municipal page does not print a reserved offtake, an adopted local plan, a signed heat contract or a construction permit for Tinghøj or Lunde.
