T.Loop’s Hanko reservation is a land hold during permits, not reserved Finnish hall offtake

On 6 May 2026 Therma Loop said the City of Hanko had reserved land in the Eastern industrial area for a data-energy centre. A reservation while permits are prepared is not a commissioned hall and not reserved Finnish offtake.

Therma Loop’s 6 May 2026 notice is the dated land-reservation source used here. It says the company is expanding to Finland and that the City of Hanko has reserved land in the Eastern industrial area for a new data centre in the company’s Nordic and European portfolio. A municipal land reservation is not a building permit and not a reserved offtake.

The concept sentence must stay a concept sentence. The notice says Therma Loop’s model is so-called DEC plants, data-energy centres designed from the start to sit in the energy system, recovering surplus heat to local district-heating networks and offering support services to the power grid. The Hanko plant is planned to deliver heat to the local district-heating network. Those are design sentences. They are not a signed heat volume and not a commissioned exchanger.

The permit sentence must stay a permit sentence. The notice says the Hanko reservation applies during the period when necessary permits and studies are carried out. The company’s sales lead calls the model a faster route to power. A route-to-power comment is not a Fingrid agreement and not a reserved megawatt. The notice does not print a hall megawatt.

The next update would need a later primary source that names a granted permit, a reserved offtake, a signed heat contract or a commissioned hall. Until then, the Eastern industrial-area hold stays a reservation during permits — not reserved Finnish hall capacity.

Why it matters

A Finnish land-reservation headline that also names heat and grid services is easy to file as a live campus. The May notice is usable only if the hold stays a hold during permits.

What remains unknown

The notice does not print a hall megawatt, a granted permit, a reserved Fingrid offtake or a signed Hanko heat volume.
