T1’s Giga Arctic zoning day is a Mo i Rana permit, not a live Norwegian hall

On 27 August 2026 T1 Energy said a Mo i Rana committee had rezoned 161,000 square feet of the Giga Arctic campus for industrial use or data-centre operations. A zoning vote is not a commissioned hall.

It says a committee of the Mo i Rana municipal government approved a permit allowing 161,000 square feet of T1’s Giga Arctic facility to be rezoned for either industrial use or data-centre operations in northern Norway. A committee vote is not a commissioned hall.

The campus sentence must stay a campus sentence. T1 writes a 50-year lease for the 926,000-square-foot Giga Arctic campus, described as a brownfield facility in an industrial park. Those are lease-and-site facts. They are not a named tenant list and not a live compute load.

The megawatt sentence must stay an expectation-and-queue sentence. T1 says it expects a 50 MW data centre could be operational at the site in 2027, with a pathway to expansion because of a position in the grid-capacity queue for a total of 396 MW. The same page labels those statements as forward-looking. An expected 2027 figure is not a live hall. A queue position is not a reserved offtake.

The next update would need a later primary source that names a commissioned 2027 hall, a closed monetisation counterparty or a reserved offtake above the printed expectation. Until then, 50 MW stays an expected 2027 sentence — not a live Norwegian campus.

Why it matters

A northern-Norway zoning headline that prints 50 MW and 396 MW is easy to file as live Arctic hall power. The August note is usable only if the vote stays a vote — not a commissioned hall.

What remains unknown

The note does not name a tenant, close a monetisation deal or say the expected 2027 hall is already live.
