Svenska kraftnät: 780 MW of consumption reserved in 2026 through August is not a data-center total

The reserved-capacity table reviewed on 2 September 2026 says 3,009 MW of production and 780 MW of consumption were reserved in 2026 through August. Reservation happens when a preliminary notice is sent. Allocation comes later, with a signed connection agreement. Those annual totals are not split by data center.

Svenska kraftnät’s allocated-reserved-requested page is the dated process source used here. It was reviewed on 2 September 2026. The reservation table covers 2020 through August 2026. Effect is reserved when the applicant receives a preliminary notice and is then removed from the application queue. Actual allocation happens later, when a connection agreement is signed. Those are the authority’s own verbs.

The 2026 row is 3,009 MW of production and 780 MW of consumption. The 2025 row remains 1,170 MW of production and 3,695 MW of consumption — the year-total already stored from the 2 February 2026 notice. This article does not add 780 to 3,695, and it does not label either figure as data-center megawatts. The table has two columns only: production and consumption.

Four process states sit under the same heading and must stay unadded. Allocated capacity in operation is capacity fixed in a connection agreement and in operation in 2026. Allocated capacity not in operation is agreed but due to start after 2026. Reserved capacity has a preliminary notice and no signed agreement yet. Requested capacity is still in the queue. The page says the figures are maximum effect and say nothing about how that effect is used. Sweden’s peak-load hour is given as about 25,000 MW as a comparison, not as spare room.

The overview charts on the same page are marked updated on 18 August 2026. That stamp is not a data-center ledger. A buyer who pastes 780 MW into a Falun, Horndal or Stockholm brochure is inventing a customer the table left unnamed. The bidding-area data-center split reviewed the same day remains a different artefact.

DataCenterSweden records the August 2026 reservation year-row as a national consumption and production process note. No project identifier is attached. The next Swedish update still needs a property-level paper. Until then, reserved, allocated and requested stay on separate lines — and 780 MW stays unlabelled as a hall.

Why it matters

A 2026 reservation total is the easiest figure to misread as new Swedish halls. The August table is usable only if 780 MW stays consumption, reserved and unnamed — and if it is not added to the 2025 year-note already in this register.

What remains unknown

The table does not say how much of the 780 MW is data-center demand, does not name counterparties, and does not publish an energization date.
