Svenska kraftnät’s Gräsmark commissioning day is series compensation, not reserved Värmland hall power

Updated 22 October 2026: Svenska kraftnät’s operations page for week 43 says the new series capacitor at Olingan was commissioned during week 42. Svenska kraftnät’s 27 April 2026 Olingan and Gräsmark note says the new series-capacitor station in Gräsmark has been taken into service and invites a closing information meeting on 13 May. A commissioned series-capacitor bay is not reserved offtake.

Update — 22 October 2026. Svenska kraftnät’s page Information från driften (information from operations) for week 43, updated 19 October 2026, says in the operations manager’s comments that the new series capacitor at Olingan station was commissioned during week 42 (12–18 October 2026). The page says this gives conditions for increased controllability of power flow across transmission cut 2 (snitt 2). The Olingan and Gräsmark project page, checked on 22 October, still says the Olingan capacitor was planned for service in September 2026. This article was first published on 12 September; that original publication date is retained. A commissioned series capacitor is grid hardware. It is not a reserved offtake or a hall agreement.

Svenska kraftnät’s 27 April 2026 information-meeting note, published on the Olingan and Gräsmark hub, is the dated source used here. It says the new series-capacitor installation in Gräsmark has now been taken into service and that Svenska kraftnät invites a closing information meeting on 13 May at the station site. A commissioned series-capacitor bay is not a reserved offtake.

The rebuild sentence must stay a rebuild sentence. The hub writes that series compensation on the 400 kV line between Rätan and Borgvik is being split between Olingan and a new station in Gräsmark, Värmland, to raise transfer capacity and enable wind connections on that line. Gräsmark is written as commissioned in April 2026. The new series-capacitor plant next to the existing Olingan station in Härjedalen is planned for service in September 2026. Those are grid-hardware facts. They are not a hall agreement.

The wind-connection sentence must stay a wind-connection sentence. The same hub states that no new wind farms will be connected at the Gräsmark station itself. The installation may enable new wind connections on the Rätan–Borgvik line, but not along Tandö–Borgvik and not at Gräsmark station. That clarification is not a consumption reservation.

Since 19 October 2026 Svenska kraftnät reports Olingan in service as well. The next update would need a primary source that names a reserved consumption agreement beside either station or a hall offtake. Until then, Gräsmark and Olingan stay series-capacitor installations — not reserved hall capacity.

Why it matters

A Värmland station-commissioning headline on a 400 kV north–south line is easy to file as spare hall power. The April note is usable only if series compensation stays series compensation — not a reservation.

What remains unknown

The sources do not give the added transfer capacity in megawatts, reserve a consumption agreement or name a hall offtake beside Olingan or Gräsmark.
