Svenska kraftnät’s February 2026 investment step-up is transfer money, not reserved hall offtake

On 26 February 2026 Svenska kraftnät said it plans to invest SEK 70 billion in 2027–2029, SEK 14 billion more than the previous plan. NordSyd is said to raise transfer capacity between bidding areas 2 and 3 by 800 MW by 2029. Transfer capacity is not a campus reservation.

Svenska kraftnät’s 26 February 2026 notice is the dated investment-plan source used here. It says the authority plans to invest SEK 70 billion in 2027–2029, an increase of SEK 14 billion against the previous year’s business plan. Most of the money goes to raising transfer capacity in the transmission grid and to replacing parts that reach the end of technical life. A three-year plan is not a connection offer.

The 800 MW sentence must stay a transfer sentence. Deputy director general Peter Wigert names Ekhyddan–Nybro–Hemsjö, Stockholm-area programme works, the Norrland coast package and NordSyd among the larger investments. NordSyd is said to raise transfer capacity between bidding area 2 and bidding area 3 by 800 MW by 2029. The notice compares 800 MW with the consumption of about three medium-sized cities such as Uppsala and Västerås. That comparison is not a hall reservation.

The southern-line dates stay southern-line dates. Ekhyddan–Nybro and Nybro–Hemsjö, running through eastern Småland and on to south-western Blekinge, are estimated to enter service in 2030 and 2027. Both are said to raise transfer capacity toward Sweden’s southernmost bidding area. Those are commissioning-year sentences on a plan page. They are not reserved offtake in SE4.

Congestion-income rows stay congestion-income rows. The inflow forecast for 2026–2031 is SEK 78 billion, of which SEK 20 billion in 2026, SEK 15 billion in 2027 and SEK 11 billion in each of 2028–2031. In the same period SEK 119 billion of congestion income is to be used, of which SEK 60 billion for network investment and the rest to reduce the transmission tariff. About SEK 44 billion is expected to remain at the end of 2031 for already started works in 2032–2035. The next update would need a later primary source that names a commissioned NordSyd increment, a changed kronor total or a reserved hall offtake. Until then, 800 MW stays SE2–SE3 transfer — not reserved campus power.

Why it matters

A SEK 70 billion transmission plan with 800 MW in the headline is easy to file as spare northern hall power. The February notice is usable only if 800 MW stays an SE2–SE3 transfer increment.

What remains unknown

The fetched notice does not name a reserved datacentre offtake, a commissioned NordSyd increment already in service or a site-level connection offer.
