Svenska kraftnät’s Horred–Breared sod is a west-coast rebuild start, not reserved hall offtake

The note says the ceremonial first sod for the 400 kV Horred–Breared renewal was taken on Wednesday 20 May. It marks the start of the first works package in the Västra Götaland business package that Svenska kraftnät is carrying out in a strategic partnership with NCC. A sod ceremony is not a reserved offtake.

The corridor sentence must stay a corridor sentence. The hub says the line between station Horred in Mark Municipality and station Breared in Halmstad Municipality is about 70 kilometres of 400 kV alternating-current overhead line, built in the mid-1950s, and will be renewed in the existing alignment rather than in a new right-of-way. The municipalities named are Mark, Varberg, Hylte, Falkenberg and Halmstad, in Västra Götaland and Halland counties. Svenska kraftnät’s 12 May 2026 invitation adds that the line was built in 1954 and that sea-wind salt has brought it toward the end of its technical life. Those are rebuild facts. They are not a hall agreement.

The package sentence must stay a package sentence. The 12 May invitation says Horred–Breared is the first of several overhead-line contracts in the Västra Götaland package. In August 2025 Svenska kraftnät signed an agreement with NCC of about 7.5 billion kronor for that package, covering about 450 kilometres of line in six projects over the coming ten years. The hub timetable prints construction start in the second quarter of 2026, commissioning of the new line in the fourth quarter of 2028, demolition of the old line in 2029 and site restoration by the fourth quarter of 2029. Those are rebuild dates. They are not reserved megawatts.

The hub places the project in a larger west-coast transmission renewal of about 400 kilometres from Skogssäter outside Trollhättan down to Sege outside Malmö, intended to keep supply secure in south-western Sweden including Gothenburg and Malmö. This article does not import a hall reservation into a sod day.

The next update would need a later primary source that names a commissioned new line, a reserved consumption agreement or a signed offtake beside the corridor. Until then, the 400 kV renewal stays a west-coast rebuild — not reserved Halland or Västra Götaland hall capacity.

Why it matters

A first sod on a west-coast 400 kV rebuild is easy to file as spare southern-hall power. The May ceremony is usable only if the corridor stays a rebuild — not a reservation.

What remains unknown

The fetched pages name a sod day, an NCC package and a 2028–2029 rebuild timetable. They do not print a named datacentre applicant or a reserved hall megawatt beside Horred–Breared.
