Svenska kraftnät’s early indication expires the day it is sent; 300 MW is a ceiling, not a reservation

Svenska kraftnät’s indication page, reviewed on 12 March 2026, describes a free, voluntary request for an early view of transmission-network capacity. It is open for needs up to 300 MW at least three years ahead. The indication expires on the day the reply is sent. That is not a queue place and not a spare megawatt for a named Swedish hall.

The indication page is the dated process source used here. Svenska kraftnät can give an indication of whether capacity exists at transmission-network connection points. An early indication may be given to existing regional distribution systems, or to an actor referred from such a system. The service is voluntary and separate from the formal connection process. It is not a substitute for an application.

The reply band is short and perishable. A request is free of charge and is normally answered within three months with a statement on whether capacity is available, or whether increased withdrawal or injection lies far ahead. If capacity is available, the reply also includes a standardised cost for enabling the increase. The early indication expires on the same day the reply is sent, because new applications or other system-affecting circumstances can change the connection point after that moment.

The 300 MW sentence is a ceiling, not an offer. An indicative request may be submitted for needs up to 300 MW that lie at least three years ahead. Larger needs are to be handled through a connection application. The service is not available to offshore-wind actors. None of those rules names a data center, a municipality or a project in this register.

The national and bidding-area application tables are queue snapshots. An expired indication is not a row in those tables. A brochure that treats a three-month letter as reserved SE3 power is rewriting the page.

DataCenterSweden records the 12 March 2026 indication page as a process briefing. No project identifier is attached. The next Swedish cell still needs a formal inquiry reply, a reservation or a signed agreement. Until then, 300 MW stays a request ceiling — not a hall envelope.

Why it matters

A free 300 MW letter is the easiest Swedish paper to file as ‘power secured’. The March page is usable only if the indication expires the day it arrives — and if no named hall inherits the ceiling.

The page does not publish an issued indication for any project in this register, a reserved megawatt or a data-center split of the 300 MW ceiling.
