Statnett’s Sognefjorden summer note is a 420 kV span being strung, not reserved Vestland hall power

On 29 June 2026 Statnett said it was stringing conductors across Sognefjorden as the world’s longest 420 kV fjord span. A summer works note is not reserved offtake toward Bergen.

The replacement sentence must stay a replacement sentence. The new span is written to replace the fjord span that hangs a little farther north, on the grid between Sogndal and Vik municipalities. The old span is planned to be demolished in 2027/28 after the new one is put in service. Those are works facts. They are not a reserved megawatt and not a named hall tenant.

The voltage sentence must stay a voltage sentence. Work on a new 420 kV line on Fimreiteåsen continues through the summer. The stretch between Fimreite and Sogndal will be operated at 300 kV until the Vik–Ramnaberg project and Vik transformer station are built. The notice says transfer capacity cannot be used in full until everything is upgraded, even as operational security increases so demolition of the old line and the Fardal fjord span can start in the autumn. A 300 kV interim stretch is not a live Vestland hall.

Why it matters

A world’s-longest 420 kV fjord-span headline is easy to file as spare Vestland hall power. The June note is usable only if the stringing stays stringing — not a reservation.

What remains unknown

The notice does not put the new span in service, finish the 2027/28 demolition or name a reserved consumption agreement beside the corridor.
