Statnett’s 12 August Refsdal–Modalen note is a monomast hearing, not reserved Bergen-area hall power

On 12 August 2026 Statnett said it had applied to put new earth wires on monomasts beside two stretches of the existing 420 kV Refsdal–Modalen line, with comments to NVE by 14 August 2026. A monomast hearing is not reserved offtake.

Statnett’s 12 August 2026 monomast notice, with the Refsdal–Modalen hub beside it, is the dated hearing source used here. The notice writes an application to take down existing earth wires on two stretches of today’s 420 kV line and to put new earth wires on new monomasts parallel to the existing line. One stretch is written as about five kilometres with 22 masts on the south side. The other is written as about 11.5 kilometres with 45 masts on the north side. A monomast application is not reserved hall offtake.

The purpose sentence must stay a purpose sentence. The notice writes the Refsdal–Modalen line as important for supply to the Bergen area, and the measure as needed to keep operational security in periods of icing and strong wind. The works are written as running through the Stølsheimen landscape-protection area. Those are security-of-supply facts. They are not a reserved megawatt.

The hub sentence must stay a hub sentence. The project hub writes NVE’s November 2022 concession for a 38-kilometre 420 kV double-circuit overhead line in Vik, Voss, Vaksdal and Modalen, with construction start in 2023, as stage two of the Bergen–Haugalandet area plan. That is the earlier voltage-upgrade paper. This article does not treat the August monomast hearing as a new 38-kilometre concession.

The next update would need a later primary source that names NVE’s decision on the monomasts, or a reserved consumption agreement beside the 38 kilometres. Until then, the August hearing stays an earth-wire paper — not reserved Bergen-area hall capacity.

Why it matters

A 420 kV Bergen-area headline with a printed kilometre count is easy to file as spare hall power. The 12 August note is usable only if the monomast hearing stays a monomast hearing — not a reservation.

What remains unknown

The pages do not decide the monomast application or name a reserved hall offtake beside Refsdal–Modalen.
