Statnett H1 2026: around 3,500 MW of mature applications is not a Nordic data-center queue

On 27 August 2026 Statnett said it received mature applications for grid connection totalling around 3,500 MW in the first half of 2026, an increase of 2,000 MW compared with the same period last year. Over the past twelve months it connected more than 600 MW of new consumption and 100 MW of new production. Those are Norwegian process totals. They are not a named data-center list and not a Swedish megawatt.

Statnett’s 27 August 2026 half-year notice is the dated transmission-system source used here. It says that in the first half of 2026 the authority received mature applications for grid connection totalling around 3,500 MW. That represents an increase of 2,000 MW compared with the same period last year. Around and compared with are Statnett’s words. Mature applications are not reserved megawatts and not energised halls.

A neighbouring sentence on the same page must stay separate. Over the past twelve months Statnett connected more than 600 MW of new electricity consumption and 100 MW of new electricity production. Connected is a past-tense operating claim. It is not the 3,500 MW application total. Adding the two invents a third number the notice does not publish. The page also says Statnett introduced stricter maturity requirements in 2026 for being placed in the queue and reserving capacity.

The same notice is a grid-build paper, not a campus brochure. At the end of 2025 Statnett had 248 active development projects. During the first half of 2026 that rose to 271 projects under way. Investments were NOK 6.4 billion in the first half of 2026. To facilitate planned industrial consumption in the Haugaland region, a new power line is being constructed between Blåfalli and Gismarvik. Those are Statnett geography and project-count sentences. They do not name atNorth, NOR01 or a Swedish site.

Named Nordic queue rows stay on their own papers. The April 2026 Svartisen reservation hold, the June 2026 four-TSO connection-request note, Svenska kraftnät’s September application tables and Fingrid’s signed-agreement total are different issuers and metrics. Three thousand five hundred megawatts of mature Norwegian applications do not become Hamre, Horndal or a Danish pause.

DataCenterSweden records 27 August 2026 as a Norwegian mature-application and connection-progress notice. No Swedish project identifier is attached. The next update would need a later Statnett paper that names a data-center split, a reservation or an energization. Until then, around 3,500 MW stays labelled as mature first-half applications — not reserved Nordic AI power.

Why it matters

A half-year application total is easy to paste onto a Swedish or Danish map as Nordic spare power. The August notice is usable only if 3,500 MW stays mature, Norwegian and unnamed — and if 600 MW connected stays on its own line.

What remains unknown

The half-year notice does not split the 3,500 MW by data center, does not name a customer, and does not assign any of the total to a Swedish hall.
