Esbjerg’s 26 March 2026 Prime notice is a land-right and EIA paper; 550 MW IT stays a later envelope

On 26 March 2026 Esbjerg Municipality said Prime Data Centers had secured the right to acquire a 640,000 m² plot on Nordre Tovrupvej. First-phase IT capacity is 160 MW IT. Later capacity can be expanded to 550 MW IT. Construction could begin in 2027 if the EIA is approved. That is a Danish land-and-assessment file. It is not DEN02 and not a Swedish megawatt.

Esbjerg Municipality’s 26 March 2026 notice is the dated public-authority source used here. Prime’s 27 March operator notice is the matching developer paper. The municipality says Prime secured the right to acquire a 640,000 m² area on Nordre Tovrupvej offered by the municipality. A right to acquire is not a completed sale recorded as a commissioning. The operator paper names the campus ESB01 and says the project is entering the environmental-impact-assessment process.

Two IT-capacity sentences must stay split. The municipality says the first phase comprises 160 MW IT and an investment of around DKK 15 billion, and that capacity can later be expanded to 550 MW IT. Prime says the first phase will deliver a campus totalling 160 MW of IT capacity, about EUR 2 billion, and that a second phase could reach a total assessed capacity of 550 MW IT, about EUR 6 billion, subject to demand and permitting. Assessed and subject to are EIA and permitting words. They are not energised IT load. This register does not add 160 and 550.

Grid and schedule language must keep its counterparts. The municipality says establishment requires the necessary connections at Energinet, that Prime is in dialogue with Energinet, and that the company will help finance grid expansion. Dialogue is not a signed Energinet agreement in this file. Subject to an approved EIA, construction could begin in 2027. Prime adds that initial capacity is targeting go-live in late 2029. Could and targeting are not a 2026 shovel or a live hall. Expected permanent jobs of 150–200 stay an expectation.

Named Danish rows stay on their own papers. atNorth’s DEN01 and DEN02, Energinet’s large-connection pause, Varde’s Krageris plan proposals and Microsoft’s Denmark East region are different issuers. ESB01 does not become those sites. A buyer who pastes 550 MW IT into a Swedish or Seinäjoki brochure is inventing a geography the Esbjerg notices did not publish.

DataCenterSweden records 26 March 2026 as a Danish municipal land-right notice, with the 27 March operator EIA paper as a companion. No Swedish project identifier is attached. The next update would need a later primary source that names a signed grid agreement, a construction start or a different capacity definition. Until then, 160 MW IT and 550 MW IT stay first-phase and assessed envelopes.

Why it matters

A 550 MW IT EIA figure is easy to file as a live Danish AI campus. The March notices are usable only if 160 MW IT stays a first phase and 2027/2029 stay conditional — not a Swedish spare-power cell.

What remains unknown

The notices do not publish a signed Energinet agreement, an approved EIA, a construction start or an occupied IT-load reading.
