Polar Connect 2026: icebreaker Oden runs the Arctic seabed survey

The Polar Secretariat lists a 24 July–10 August 2026 expedition on Oden to map a central Arctic route. A survey is not a landing and not a laid cable.

The Swedish Polar Research Secretariat's Polar Connect 2026 expedition pages, English and Swedish, read on 12 September 2026, are the dated sources used here. They list a research expedition from 24 July to 10 August 2026 on the icebreaker Oden. The printed task is seabed mapping and route studies in the central Arctic. A survey expedition is not a cable landing, and it is not a laid system.

The same pages say the work is co-funded under CEF Digital. That funding sentence stays a funding sentence. It is not a construction contract and not a ready Nordic–Asia path.

Named partners on the pages include VR / Sunet, NORDUnet, DTU, the Polar Secretariat, DeiC, and Global Connect. Those names stay a partner list. They are not a Swedish beach, and they are not a ready offtake for a campus.

This note is not the December 2025 CEF Digital grant paper already on this site, and it is not the North Pole Fiber inland Kiruna path. A 2026 Oden survey stays a 2026 Oden survey.

Why it matters

The Arctic fibre idea has moved from a grant paper to a dated icebreaker survey, still short of a landing.

What remains unknown

Which landing countries and beaches would be used, and whether a cable is ever laid, is not in the expedition pages.
