Ingrid’s 17 April 2026 Vaggeryd and Horsaryd paper is grid BESS, not a hall battery

On 17 April 2026 Ingrid Capacity said Vaggeryd would be 100 MW / 400 MWh and, once operational, Sweden’s largest battery and first large-scale four-hour system. Horsaryd would be 100 MW / 200 MWh in SE4. Together the two systems are described as 600 MWh. Building permits are in legal force. Construction is expected as early as 2026. That is not a data-center BESS.

Ingrid Capacity’s 17 April 2026 notice is the dated Swedish grid-BESS source used here. Once operational, the Vaggeryd battery system will be Sweden’s largest at 100 MW / 400 MWh and the country’s first large-scale four-hour system. The Horsaryd system will provide 100 MW / 200 MWh and strengthen the power system in SE4. Together, the two systems deliver 600 MWh. Deliver on this page is Ingrid’s combined-rating verb. It is not a 2026 operating certificate.

Permit and schedule language must stay conditional. After several years of work both projects have obtained building permits that have gained legal force. The Vaggeryd permit is being reapplied for with updated technical specifications to increase capacity from 200 to 400 MWh. Construction is expected to begin as early as 2026, with full operation planned for 2028. Expected and planned are not energization dates. A reapplication is not a second commissioned park.

Portfolio arithmetic stays Ingrid’s. The two systems increase Ingrid’s then-current Nordic battery portfolio from 650 MWh to 1.2 GWh. The company’s project pipeline totals 7.4 GW, including work in Sweden, Finland, Germany and France. A pipeline is not awarded capacity and not a Svenska kraftnät reservation. This article does not add 100 MW and 100 MW into a third megawatt the notice did not print as a single site rating.

Named battery and hall rows stay separate. Saft’s 4 October 2023 delivery to an unnamed Microsoft hall in Sweden, VivoPower’s Mo i Rana feasibility study and Fingrid’s signed Finnish storage totals are different issuers. Vaggeryd and Horsaryd do not become Staffanstorp, Gävle or Sandviken. Horsaryd’s SE4 sentence does not move Vaggeryd into that bidding area.

DataCenterSweden records 17 April 2026 as a Swedish grid-scale battery-permit and rating paper. No data-center project identifier is attached. The next update would need a later primary source that names a construction start, a commissioning or a changed rating. Until then, 400 MWh at Vaggeryd stays a once-operational claim beside a permit being reapplied.

Why it matters

A Swedish 100 MW battery headline is easy to pin on a named hall in SE4. The April notice is usable only if Vaggeryd and Horsaryd stay grid BESS — not Microsoft, not Saft, and not a 2026 operating park.

What remains unknown

The notice does not publish a construction-start date that has occurred, a commissioning, or a data-center host site.
