HIVE’s Big Boden council paper is an approved purchase, not a closed sale or new grid megawatts

On 18 June 2026 HIVE Digital Technologies said Boden Municipal Council had approved the company’s acquisition of the Big Boden 32 MW data centre from Bodens Utvecklings AB. Council approval is not a closed transaction.

It says Boden Municipal Council has approved the company’s acquisition of the Big Boden 32 MW data centre from Bodens Utvecklings AB, the facility that has anchored HIVE’s Swedish operations since 2018. The acquisition remains subject to completion of customary closing conditions. Council approval is not a closed sale.

The site sentence must stay a site sentence. With the approval, HIVE writes that it transitions from tenant to owner. Upon closing, the company says it will advance the Big Boden data centre toward Tier III infrastructure standards for enterprise-scale AI and high-performance-computing workloads. Those are post-closing intentions. They are not a commissioned new hall and not a new reserved offtake.

The heat sentence must stay an explore sentence. The notice says the company continues to work alongside Boden Municipality and the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) to explore recovering heat generated by the data centre for broader community use. Explore is not a signed heat offtake. The same page prints more than 960 million kronor invested in the Boden region through local contractors and renewable-energy procurement, and more than 575 million kronor paid in taxes to the Swedish Tax Agency. Those are company-printed historic figures. They are not new reserved megawatts.

Named neighbouring papers stay on their own files. A 32 MW Boden headline is easy to file as new northern-hall power. The June notice is usable only if the council paper stays an approval — not a closed sale and not new reserved megawatts.

What remains unknown

The notice does not close the sale, print a reserved offtake, sign a heat contract or name a new grid reservation beside Big Boden.
