Fossefall’s Jokkmokk platform is a planned AI site, not a reserved SE1 offtake

On 8 May 2026 Fossefall said it had established a platform for large-scale AI infrastructure in Jokkmokk, with planned capacity of up to 200 MW and an initial phase of about 45 MW. A planned platform is not reserved grid power.

Fossefall’s 8 May 2026 notice, dated Oslo and Stockholm, is the dated platform source used here. It says the company has taken a step in its Nordic expansion by establishing a platform for large-scale AI infrastructure in Jokkmokk. The project is written as a long-term AI infrastructure platform with planned capacity of up to 200 MW. The initial development phase is expected to comprise about 45 MW. Phasing is said to follow permitting, grid connection and market demand. A planned phase is not a reserved offtake.

The site sentence must stay a site sentence. The project area is written as about 350,000 square metres in bidding area SE1. Fossefall says it is evaluating energy-storage investments and opportunities for heat recovery and delivery to local district-heating networks. The facility is planned to Tier III standards. The company describes itself as Nordic-owned with shareholders in Norway and Sweden and an office in Stockholm. Those are platform sentences. They are not a commissioned hall.

The screening sentence must stay a screening sentence. The notice says the potential transaction may be subject to review under Sweden’s foreign-direct-investment screening framework, to the extent that the regulation is applicable. That is a possible later review. It is not a screening decision and not a granted permit. Chief executive Øyvind Vesterdal’s ownership-and-control wording on the same page stays an operator comment — not a municipal approval.

The municipal welcome stays a municipal welcome. On 12 May 2026 Jokkmokk Municipality said it welcomed Fossefall’s plan and repeated the 200 MW full-build figure. Municipal director Lars Eriksson says the detailed-plan process for the area has been handled over several years within ordinary authority work and that the plan has been financed by the developer. Heat recovery is written as something that can in time create opportunities for energy recovery and later heat cooperation. Named neighbouring papers — Vertical Data’s Sollefteå purchase, atNorth SWE04, Torsboda and Svenska kraftnät’s reserved-connection tables — stay on their own files.

The next update would need a later primary source that names a granted detailed plan, a reserved grid offtake, a screening decision or a commissioned phase. Until then, 200 MW and 45 MW stay planned figures — not reserved SE1 hall capacity.

Why it matters

A 200 MW Jokkmokk headline is easy to file as spare northern-hall power. The May notices are usable only if the platform stays planned — not reserved.

What remains unknown

The notices do not print a reserved offtake, a granted detailed plan, a screening outcome or a commissioned Jokkmokk hall.
