Fjernvarme Fyn’s April 2025 note is a live Odense heat offtake; more volume still needs investment

On 2 April 2025 Dansk Fjernvarme reported that Fjernvarme Fyn already takes surplus heat from Meta’s data center outside Odense, and that Denmark’s surplus-heat price cap would be abolished from 1 July 2025. Taking more heat would still need dialogue and investment. A Danish district offtake is not Horndal and not a Swedish megawatt-hour.

Dansk Fjernvarme’s 2 April 2025 note is the dated district-heat source used here. It says Fjernvarme Fyn already collects surplus heat each year from Meta’s large data center on the edge of Odense. The same note says the national surplus-heat price cap would be removed from 1 July 2025. A removed cap is a tariff-rule change. It is not a new measured megawatt-hour for 2025.

The utility’s undated heat-mix page keeps the offtake in the present tense. Fjernvarme Fyn says it uses surplus heat from the Facebook data center in Odense at Tietgenbyen heat plant, and lists Meta among current surplus-heat suppliers. Present-tense offtake is not a dated annual volume on that page. This note does not invent a 2025 megawatt-hour from an undated list.

An older operator paper must stay on its own date. Meta’s 13 October 2020 expansion notice said the heat-recovery partnership, which had begun delivering heat that year, would grow to a total of 165,000 MWh a year, enough to warm 11,000 homes, once the expansion was completed. That is a 2020 design-and-expansion sentence. It is not rewritten here as a 2025 meter reading. Household counts on later undated pages are not used to replace that dated wording.

Named heat rows in this register stay separate. Stockholm Data Parks, Conapto and Exergi, Helen and OnZero, Fortum in Espoo and Kirkkonummi, CSC and Loiste in Kajaani, atNorth and Kesko, Vestforbrænding at DEN01 and Selected Group at DEN02 are other offtakers. Odense does not become their missing buyer. Meta Odense does not become Meta Luleå.

DataCenterSweden records 2 April 2025 as a Danish municipal-heat offtake still in operation, with a tariff-rule change from 1 July 2025. No Swedish project identifier is attached. The next update would need a later primary source that names a new delivered volume or a signed expansion. Until then, more heat stays a dialogue-and-investment sentence.

Why it matters

A live Danish heat offtake is easy to copy onto a Swedish campus as delivered megawatt-hours. The April note is usable only if 165,000 MWh stays a 2020 expansion sentence and more heat stays uninvested.

What remains unknown

The April note does not publish a 2025 metered megawatt-hour, a signed expansion or a Swedish offtaker.
