Fingrid: southern-Finland consumption connections are tight from 2025 to 2027, not cancelled

On 30 January 2025 Fingrid said local restrictions would apply when connecting new industrial electricity-consumption facilities to the main grid in southern Finland from 2025 to 2027. The named regions are Uusimaa, Southwest Finland and Häme. Limited connectivity applies to new industrial-scale demand that has not yet agreed a connection. Tight is not a Nordic moratorium and not a Swedish queue.

Fingrid’s 30 January 2025 notice is the dated restriction source used here. It says local restrictions will apply when connecting new industrial electricity-consumption facilities to the main grid in southern Finland from 2025 to 2027, after which investments in reinforcing the main grid will be completed. The shortage is described as temporary. Temporary and after which are Fingrid’s process words. They are not a 2027 commissioning promise for a named campus.

The geography is explicit. Connection capacity will be temporarily and locally restricted in the Uusimaa, Southwest Finland and Häme regions. The causes named on the page are faster-than-anticipated consumption growth in southern Finland, decommissioning of regional combined-heat-and-power production, and the end of electricity imports from Russia. Those are Finnish system sentences. They are not a Stockholm or SE3 finding.

The customer set is also bounded. In practice, from 2025 to 2027 large new electricity-consumption projects may have to wait longer than normal. Limited connectivity applies to new industrial-scale demand facilities that have not yet agreed upon a connection to the grid. Projects that already have an agreement are outside that sentence. This article does not move a signed Finnish campus into the restricted set, and it does not invent a waiting time in months.

A later Fingrid paper already stored here restates the southern restriction in the 3 March 2026 bulletin and points to easing in 2027–2028 when key reinforcements are completed. The 18 August 2026 signed-agreement total of nearly 5 GW is a different metric. Energinet’s Danish pause and Svenska kraftnät’s application tables are other countries. Southern-Finland tightness does not become a Swedish transmission hold.

The next update would need a later Fingrid paper that lifts the restriction or names a different geography. Until then, 2025–2027 stays a wait-longer window for unsigned industrial demand in three named Finnish regions.

Why it matters

A southern-Finland tightness headline is easy to relocate onto every Nordic campus as a stop. The January notice is usable only if 2025–2027, unsigned industrial demand and three named regions stay the boundary.

What remains unknown

The notice does not publish a megawatt cap, a list of paused projects or a Swedish restriction.
