Fingrid’s mid-August 2026 storage line is more than 4 GW signed, not a hall battery

On 18 August 2026 Fingrid said connection agreements had been signed for more than 4 gigawatts of electricity storage. The same notice keeps nearly 5 GW of planned data-centre capacity and more than 3 GW of electric boilers on their own lines. Signed storage is not a Finnish or Swedish data-center BESS and not an installed battery park.
Fingrid’s 18 August 2026 consumption notice is the dated storage-queue source used here. Beside the data-centre sentence already stored on its own row, the authority says connection agreements have been signed for more than 4 gigawatts of electricity storage. Those words are a national signed-agreement observation. They are not a list of named battery parks and not a Swedish grid-BESS rating.
The authority’s own caveat on the same page still applies. Signing a connection agreement does not guarantee that a project will be implemented at its full planned scale. Construction typically begins after a signature, and use increases gradually. A slide that pastes more than 4 GW into a brochure as built Nordic batteries is rewriting Fingrid’s paragraph.
Two neighbouring rows in the same notice must stay separate. Data-centre projects with signed connection agreements had a planned final combined capacity of nearly 5 gigawatts by mid-August, including distribution-network projects and based on developer information. Electric-boiler projects under construction or already in operation have exceeded 3 gigawatts. Those are not storage megawatts. This article does not add 4, 5 and 3.
A later half-year paper uses different storage wording and must stay on its own date. The 23 July 2026 report says that if all signed grid-storage projects were fully implemented, combined capacity would increase to approximately four gigawatts. Approximately four on a June snapshot is not mid-August’s more than 4 GW signed. Ingrid Capacity’s Vaggeryd and Horsaryd papers, Saft’s unnamed Microsoft Sweden hall BESS and VivoPower’s Mo i Rana study are different issuers. This total does not become those sites.
DataCenterSweden records mid-August 2026 as a Finnish signed-storage total. No Swedish project identifier is attached. Nearly 5 GW of data-centre agreements stays on the existing August row. Until a later paper names the storage projects inside the 4 GW, the figure remains unsigned to any hall or battery park in this register.
Why it matters
A signed Finnish storage total is easy to paste onto a hall as installed flexibility. The August line is usable only if more than 4 GW stays signed electricity storage — and if 5 GW of data centres and 3 GW of boilers stay on their own rows.
What remains unknown
The August notice does not name the storage projects inside the 4 GW, does not publish an energization date, and does not assign any of the total to a data-center hall.
