Fingrid’s 23 July 2026 half-year: over 3 GW of signed data-centre projects by end-June

On 23 July 2026 Fingrid said that, based on project information, the planned total capacity of data-centre projects with signed connection agreements by the end of June was over three gigawatts. Electric boilers under construction or in operation also exceeded three gigawatts. That June snapshot is not the mid-August nearly 5 GW data-centre total and not a Swedish queue.
Fingrid’s half-year report for 1 January–30 June 2026, published on 23 July 2026, is the dated transmission-system source used here. It says that based on information provided by those involved in the projects, the planned total capacity of data-centre projects that had signed connection agreements by the end of June was over three gigawatts. Those words are a national planned-capacity observation on signed papers. They are not a list of named campuses and not a Swedish queue table.
Two neighbouring capacity sentences in the same report must stay split. The combined capacity of electric-boiler projects then under construction and in operation also exceeded three gigawatts. A large number of connection agreements had also been signed for grid energy storages, and if all those projects were fully implemented their combined capacity would increase to approximately four gigawatts. Approximately four is a conditional storage sentence. It is not mid-August’s more than 4 GW of signed storage and not the data-centre line.
Agreement counts and enquiry totals are third and fourth metrics. Fingrid concluded some 50 new connection agreements over the past 12 months, around a third of which concerned data centres. Over the same 12 months it received grid-connection enquiries totalling approximately 68 gigawatts for electricity consumption, approximately 13 gigawatts for generation and approximately 32 gigawatts for energy storage. Enquiries are not signatures. Sixty-eight gigawatts is not over three. A later Fingrid paper uses a fifth metric. The 18 August 2026 notice already stored here says data-centre projects with signed agreements had a planned final combined capacity of nearly 5 gigawatts by mid-August. Over three gigawatts at end-June is not nearly 5 GW in mid-August. Mixing July and August invents a single Finnish queue the sources did not publish. The Grid Scope map update in the half-year report is a connectivity map that now also shows regional connection capacity for grid energy storage. A map service is not a hall.
DataCenterSweden records 23 July 2026 as a Finnish end-June signed-agreement snapshot. No Swedish project identifier is attached. Nearly 5 GW stays on the August row. Until a later paper names the projects inside the June total, over three gigawatts remains unsigned to any hall in this register.
Why it matters
Two Finnish signed-agreement totals eight weeks apart are easy to paste into one brochure cell. The July half-year is usable only if over 3 GW stays an end-June snapshot and nearly 5 GW stays mid-August.
What remains unknown
The half-year report does not name the projects inside the June total, does not publish their energization dates, and does not assign any of the capacity to a Swedish hall.
