Energinet pauses new large connection agreements; 14 GW of data-center requests is a queue, not Danish halls

On 27 May 2026 Energinet said it was introducing a new model for larger connections and would first sign new grid-connection agreements in the autumn. CNBC’s 4 May 2026 report, citing an Energinet spokesperson, put about 60 GW of projects in the connection wait against a Danish peak load of about 7 GW, with data centers about 14 GW of that wait. Requested is not energised, and none of those gigawatts is a Swedish hall.
Energinet’s 27 May 2026 notice is the dated process title used here. It says the authority is introducing a new model for larger connections and will first sign new grid-connection agreements in the autumn. The 24 March 2026 notice is titled that the electricity grid is full and that there is a need for prioritisation. Those two Danish titles describe a pause and a later signing window. They are not a Swedish reservation table.
The volume sentences in this note come from CNBC on 4 May 2026, citing an Energinet spokesperson. Around 60 GW of projects are waiting for connections. That far exceeds Denmark’s peak electricity demand of around 7 GW. Data centers account for nearly a quarter — 14 GW — of the 60 GW potential new grid-connection projects. Those are requested-connection figures attributed to the TSO. They are not built Danish IT load and not a named campus.
CNBC also records the pause as temporary: three months, or until Energinet can complete an overview and new measures are in place. Political agreements and an adjusted regulatory framework are described as still needed before the clogged queue can be prioritised. A temporary pause is not a cancelled Ølgod campus and not a spare Swedish megawatt. This article does not convert 14 GW into a hall list.
Named Danish rows in this register stay on their own papers. atNorth’s DEN01 Ballerup heat agreement, the DEN02 Selected Group paper, Varde’s Krageris plan proposals and Bahnhof Bunker in Gothenburg are different issuers and countries. Fourteen gigawatts of Danish requests do not become SWE04, Falun or Conapto. The June 2026 four-TSO note already warned that Nordic connection requests exceed planned grid; this Danish pause is a later national instrument, not a restatement of that joint sentence.

The 14 GW figure stays labelled as requested data-center connection volume in a news report of an Energinet briefing. The next update would need a later Energinet paper that names signed agreements, a lifted pause or a different total.
Why it matters
A 14 GW Danish queue is easy to relocate onto a Swedish map, or to read as cancelled Nordic AI. The spring notices are usable only if 60 GW and 14 GW stay requested — and if autumn signing stays a process window, not a hall.
What remains unknown
The cited papers do not name the projects inside the 14 GW, do not publish a signed autumn agreement, and do not assign any of the total to a Swedish hall.
