Elering’s 26 April EstLink 2 note is a converter cooling fault, not EstLink 3 and not reserved hall power

On 26 April 2026 Elering said EstLink 2 tripped at 20:45 because of a cooling-system fault at the Estonian converter and was restored at 01:01. A converter-station fault notice is not a third cable and not reserved hall offtake.

Elering’s 26 April 2026 Estonian-language notice is the dated fault source used here. It says the Estonia–Finland connection EstLink 2 went out of service because of a technical fault for the second time that Sunday, at 20:45, and that the connection was restored during the night at 01:01. The cooling-system fault is written as sitting on the Estonian side of the converter station. A same-day earlier outage is written as 15:23–16:50. A restored converter fault is not reserved offtake.

The interconnect sentence must stay an interconnect sentence. At the moment of the evening trip the load toward Estonia is printed as 550 MW. EstLink 2’s rating is printed as 650 megawatts, and the connection is written as completed in 2014. Elering’s EstLink 2 hub writes that the second Estonia–Finland direct-current connection raised transfer capacity between the two countries from 350 MW to 1,000 MW, over about 170 kilometres, owned by Fingrid Oyj and Elering AS. Those are printed interconnect figures. They are not a reserved hall megawatt.

The hub sentence must stay a hub sentence. The hub writes about 14 kilometres of overhead line in Finland, 145 kilometres of submarine cable in the Gulf of Finland and 11 kilometres of underground cable in Estonia, with converter stations at both ends, the Finnish end at the Anttila 400 kV substation in Porvoo and the Estonian end at the Püssi 330 kV substation. Those are existing-cable facts. They are not a live Nordic hall.

The next update would need a later primary source that names a lasting outage, a completed EstLink 3 decision, or a reserved consumption agreement beside the existing cable. Until then, the 550 MW load sentence stays an interconnect trip — not reserved hall capacity.

Why it matters

A 650 MW Estonia–Finland cable headline is easy to file as spare Nordic hall power. The April note is usable only if the cooling fault stays a cooling fault — not EstLink 3 and not a reservation.

What remains unknown

The notice does not keep EstLink 2 out of service, decide EstLink 3 or name a reserved hall offtake beside the existing cable.
