Eastern Light’s SF-II start is a Sweden–Finland fibre build, not a hall circuit

On 18 May 2026 Eastern Light said it was starting construction of the Nordic Corridor, including the new SF-II connection between Sweden and Finland, with an investment of about EUR 30 million. A build start is not a dedicated data-centre circuit.

Eastern Light’s 18 May 2026 newsroom note is the dated fibre source used here. It says the company is now starting construction of the Nordic Corridor, a new fibre-cable system between Sweden and Finland. The project includes the new SF-II connection, with a total investment of approximately EUR 30 million. Together with the existing SF-I subsea cable, the two systems are written as forming the Nordic Corridor. A construction start is not a hall lease.

The fibre-count sentence must stay a fibre-count sentence. Eastern Light already operates SF-I between Sweden and Finland with 144 fibres. SF-II is written as adding a further 288 fibres through a combination of terrestrial fibre and subsea cables. Those are system facts. They are not a named data-centre pair and not a sold wavelength list.

The milestone sentence must stay a milestone sentence. The build-out of SF-II will take place in several stages. The first milestone — reaching Finnish territorial waters near the Åland archipelago — was completed in May. The cable will be laid only in national waters. The Nordic Corridor is written as owned and financed by Nordic interests. A completed first milestone is not an in-service system.

The next update would need a later primary source that names an in-service SF-II system, a landing-station pair or a dedicated hall circuit. Until then, EUR 30 million stays the printed investment sentence — not a live Sweden–Finland hall path.

Why it matters

A Sweden–Finland fibre headline that prints 288 extra fibres is easy to file as spare hall connectivity. The May note is usable only if the build start stays a build start — not an in-service hall circuit.

What remains unknown

The note does not name landing stations, declare SF-II in service or attach the system to a named data-centre pair.
