CSC and Loiste sign a Kajaani heat agreement; second-half 2027 is a launch window, not delivery

On 23 April 2026 CSC said it had signed an agreement with Loiste Lämpö Oy to recover waste heat from the LUMI AI Factory data center in Kajaani. The hall is under construction at Renforsin Ranta and is to begin operations in the second half of 2027. After launch, heat is to go to Loiste’s heat-pump plant and then into the district-heating network. That is a Finnish offtake paper. It is not Horndal and not a Swedish megawatt-hour.

CSC’s 23 April 2026 notice is the dated operator-and-utility source used here. It says CSC and Loiste Lämpö Oy have signed an agreement to recover and utilise waste heat from CSC’s LUMI AI Factory data center. The cooperation will significantly increase the share of district heating generated from data-center excess heat. Significantly increase is CSC’s phrase. It is not a measured 2026 megawatt-hour.

The schedule band is a launch window. The LUMI AI Factory data center, currently under construction in the Renforsin Ranta business area, will begin operations in the second half of 2027. After launch, excess heat will be directed to Loiste’s heat-pump plant and transferred into the district-heating network for heating in the Kajaani area. After launch is not a delivery-start certificate for 2026. This note does not treat a later 2027 heating season as documented.

The named counterparties are CSC and Loiste Lämpö Oy. They are not Helen, Fortum, Stockholm Exergi or Falu Energi & Vatten. The notice does not publish a temperature, a pipe diameter or an annual megawatt-hour volume. It does not name Google’s Kajaani campus from the September 2026 Finland envelope. Those are different issuers.

Named heat rows in this register stay on their own papers. Kajaani does not become their missing buyer. CSC does not become a Swedish landlord.

DataCenterSweden records 23 April 2026 as a Finnish municipal-heat agreement for a hall still under construction. No Swedish project identifier is attached. The next defensible update would be a later primary source that names a start of delivery or a measured volume. Until then, second-half 2027 remains a launch window on a signed Finnish paper.

Why it matters

A named city heat buyer on an AI-factory campus is easy to file as heat already in the pipes. The April notice is usable only if second-half 2027 stays a launch window — and if no Swedish hall inherits the megawatt-hours.

What remains unknown

The notice does not publish a 2026 delivered volume, a temperature, a pipe specification or a Swedish offtaker.
