CIP and Thylander’s DDC1 sod is an 11.5 MW Esbjerg start, not a live Danish hall

On 13 August 2026 Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners said Dansk Data Center 1 had held its groundbreaking at the Port of Esbjerg, with an N1 connection of 11.5 MW and commissioning written as October 2027. A sod day is not a commissioned hall.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ 13 August 2026 Cision notice is the dated groundbreaking source used here. It says a new Danish-owned data centre, Dansk Data Center 1 (DDC1), is being established in Esbjerg, with the groundbreaking ceremony on that day. The notes-to-editors block writes DDC1 as a multi-tenant colocation hall of 11.5 MW, construction expected to begin in August 2026 and commissioning in October 2027. A groundbreaking is not a live hall.

The ownership sentence must stay an ownership sentence. DDC1 is owned by PensionDanmark, the Thylander Group and CIP through the CI Microgrid Electrification Fund, with PensionDanmark as lead investor. The hall is being built by CIP, Plexar and Thylander. Thylander will be responsible for operations, maintenance and asset management. Those are owner-and-builder sentences. They are not a named tenant list.

The heat-and-grid sentence must stay a goal-and-design sentence. The hall is connected to the local grid via N1 at 11.5 MW. Plexar energy management is written as able to adjust electricity use to present grid capacity, with smart storage to support stable operation. In collaboration with DIN Forsyning the goal is to use excess heat for district heating. The cooling system is written as a closed circular system that reuses water. A goal is not a signed heat volume and not a measured offtake.

Named neighbouring papers stay on their own files. Prime’s earlier Esbjerg ESB01 land-and-EIA paper, atNorth DEN01 and DEN02 and Energinet’s large-connection pause are different dates and different counterparties. This article does not merge DDC1 with Prime ESB01, and it does not import a reserved transmission megawatt into a port sod day.

DataCenterSweden records 13 August 2026 as a CIP–Thylander DDC1 groundbreaking notice. No project identifier is attached. The next update would need a later primary source that names a commissioned 2027 hall, a signed heat contract or a reserved offtake above the printed 11.5 MW. Until then, 11.5 MW stays the printed N1 figure — not a live Danish campus.

Why it matters

An Esbjerg groundbreaking that names 11.5 MW is easy to file as live west-coast hall power. The August notice is usable only if the sod stays a sod — not a commissioned hall.

What remains unknown

The notice does not name a tenant, close a heat contract with DIN Forsyning or say the October 2027 commissioning has already happened.
