Cinia’s 14 March 2025 notice is a Gotland–Ventspils C-Lion1 repair, not the 2024 Öland fault

On 14 March 2025 Cinia said a disturbance on C-Lion1 between Gotland and Ventspils had been repaired. Traffic had continued to work. The January fault is a different event from the November 2024 Öland EEZ break. A repair is not Polar Connect and not a hall megawatt.

Cinia’s English notice that the C-Lion1 disturbance had been repaired, dated 14 March 2025, is the dated subsea-cable source used here. It names a shunt fault. Damage is suspected from 26 January 2025 at 02:37 Eastern European Time, between Gotland and Ventspils, in the same area as a Sweden–Latvia communications cable. Suspicion is the issuer’s word. This article does not name a cause beyond that sentence.

The repair sentence must stay a repair sentence. Cinia says the repair was completed at 12:41 Eastern European Time on 14 March 2025, with Cable Vigilance as the repair vessel. It says traffic continued to work normally during the disturbance. Normal traffic is not a new landing and not extra wavelengths sold to a named hall.

The system stays the system on this paper. C-Lion1 is described as a Finland–Germany submarine cable, 1,173 kilometres, in service since 2016. A 2016 Finland–Germany system is not Polar Connect and not a new Sweden–Finland terrestrial route.

Named neighbouring fibre papers stay on their own files. Cinia’s November 2024 Öland EEZ fault, Netnod’s Scandinavian DWDM ring, GlobalConnect’s Sweden–Finland cable and Arelion’s terrestrial notices are different dates and different breaks or builds. A March 2025 Gotland–Ventspils repair does not become those files.

The next update would need a later primary source that names a new landing, a capacity change or a different fault. Until then, 14 March stays a repair — not reserved hall interconnect.

Why it matters

A Baltic C-Lion1 headline is easy to file as the 2024 Öland break or as campus fibre. The March notice is usable only as a later Gotland–Ventspils repair.

What remains unknown

The notice does not state a repaired capacity increment or a named Swedish hall customer. A final cause beyond the named shunt fault is not given here.
