Cerebras and Compute Nordic announce a Mikkeli AI campus; 165 MW is contracted IT, not a Swedish hall

On 1 September 2026 Cerebras said it would develop an AI data centre in Mikkeli, Finland, with Compute Nordic Finland. The notice describes 165 MW of contracted IT capacity, an initial 50 MW phase already under construction, and a design for closed-loop cooling and waste-heat recovery. It is a Finnish partnership notice. It does not open a Swedish site or add megawatts to Falun or Borlänge.

Cerebras’s 1 September 2026 GlobeNewswire notice is the dated primary source used here. It says Cerebras Systems announced a new AI data centre in Mikkeli, Finland, developed in partnership with Compute Nordic Finland. The facility will scale in phases to 165 MW of contracted IT capacity, and construction on the initial 50 MW phase is already under way. Those sentences are company and partner claims about a named Finnish campus. They are not a Swedish planning decision and not a commissioning certificate.

The 165 MW figure must keep its wording. In the notice it is contracted IT capacity, reached in phases as data-centre capacity is delivered, with an intermediate 80 MW step named between 50 MW and 165 MW. Contracted is not energised. IT capacity is not facility load and not a heat-recovery rating. Adding 50, 80 and 165 would invent a total the source does not calculate. The notice also says the commercial form is a series of service orders, each with a seven-year term. A service order is not a municipal permit and not a Finnish or Swedish grid paper in this register.

Heat and water sit in the designed band. Cerebras and Compute Nordic say the facility is designed to use closed-loop cooling that recirculates water rather than drawing continuously from a municipal supply, and that the campus is designed to support waste-heat recovery so that thermal energy from AI compute can become a resource for the surrounding community. Designed to support is not a named Finnish heat buyer, a temperature or a delivered megawatt-hour. Do not copy that sentence onto Stockholm Exergi, Falu Energi & Vatten or Horndal.

The notice places the project in South Savo with the City of Mikkeli and a Finnish partner network. Compute Nordic Finland is described as leading project development, operator responsibility, the customer interface and programme governance. Those role sentences are useful for a Nordic comparison file. They do not identify a Swedish landlord, a Swedish colocation hall or a Nordic transmission reservation that can be reused in SE1–SE4.

Swedish AI-colo events already in this register stay on their own rows. CoreWeave’s August 2024 EcoDataCenter notice, the June 2026 Conapto occupancy notice, the February 2026 Mistral/Borlänge partnership and the June 2026 Fortum–EcoDataCenter PPA do not become Finnish megawatts. Mikkeli does not become their missing campus. A buyer who pastes 165 MW into a Dalarna brochure is inventing a geography the notice did not publish.

For a Nordic buyer the useful questions are comparative. Which paper states contracted IT, designed facility power or occupied load? Has construction been documented by a later primary source, and for which phase? If heat reuse is claimed, who is the offtaker and has delivery started? If the file is Swedish, Mikkeli is context about how AI tenants now buy purpose-built Nordic halls. It is not a substitute for a Swedish contract.

DataCenterSweden records 1 September 2026 as an international Nordic AI-colo announcement. No Swedish project identifier is attached. The 165 MW contracted-IT sentence is not written into any Swedish capacity cell. The next Swedish update still needs a dated Swedish primary source.

Why it matters

AI tenants are now buying named Nordic campuses with contracted IT figures. The Mikkeli notice is usable only if 165 MW stays Finnish, contracted and phased — and is not rewritten as Swedish spare power.

What remains unknown

The notice does not publish a Swedish site, a Finnish grid agreement, an occupied-load reading, a heat offtaker or an energization date for the 50 MW phase.
