Arelion’s 20 October 2025 Helsinki–Warsaw route is a completed terrestrial ring; it bypasses Stockholm

On 20 October 2025 Arelion said it had completed a diverse high-capacity terrestrial route between Helsinki and Warsaw, creating a ring for traffic between Sweden, Finland, the Baltic states and Poland. The path bypasses Copenhagen and Stockholm. A completed carrier ring is not a Swedish landing station and not a hall megawatt.

Arelion’s 20 October 2025 notice is the dated terrestrial-fibre source used here. It says Arelion completed a major expansion of its Baltic network by constructing a fully diverse high-capacity route between Helsinki and Warsaw. Completed is a past-tense build claim for a carrier route. It is not a data-center commissioning and not a Swedish beach landing.

The geography sentence must keep its bypass. The diverse terrestrial route connects the Baltics to Western Europe via subsea and land systems from Helsinki through the Baltics to Warsaw, bypassing Copenhagen and Stockholm to avoid bottlenecks. Bypass is Arelion’s word. Sweden appears as a traffic market on the ring, not as the construction corridor. Named PoPs include Helsinki, Hüüru, Riga, Vilnius and Equinix WA1 in Warsaw. None of those pins is Horndal, Falun or Hamre.

Optics language stays optics. The route uses open optical line systems with 400G coherent pluggable optics and 1.6 Tb/s waves. Those are line-side figures. They are not campus megawatts. The project was partially funded by the EU Connecting Europe Facility 2 programme. Partial CEF2 funding is a finance sentence. It is not a permit for a hall.

Named Nordic fibre rows stay on their own papers. GlobalConnect’s Sweden–Finland cable, GlobalConnect’s 1,250 km backbone upgrade, C-Lion1, C-Lion2 and Polar Connect are different issuers. Arelion’s own projection that Finland’s data-center market could reach USD 5.23 billion by 2030 is a market sentence on this page. It is not a named campus and is not stored here as a megawatt.

DataCenterSweden records 20 October 2025 as a completed Helsinki–Warsaw terrestrial carrier route. No Swedish project identifier is attached. The next update would need a later Arelion paper that names a Swedish landing or a different ring. Until then, the route stays a bypass of Stockholm — not a hall fibre lateral.

Why it matters

A completed Baltic ring that names Sweden is easy to file as a new Swedish landing campus. The October notice is usable only if Stockholm stays bypassed and 1.6 Tb/s stays an optical wave — not hall import.

What remains unknown

The notice does not name a Swedish landing station, a hall lateral or a data-center megawatt.
