AmpTank’s Utajärvi paper is a permit-and-grid notice, not a live Finnish hall

On 11 June 2026 AmpTank AG said DataTank AG, through Data Tank Nordic Oy, had received legally valid building permits and signed a binding grid-connection agreement for a 200 MW data centre in Utajärvi. Permits plus an agreement are not a commissioned hall.

It says DataTank AG, part of the Swiss-Finnish AmpTank group, has received legally valid building permits and signed a binding grid-connection agreement to build a 200 MW data centre in Utajärvi, Finland, through Data Tank Nordic Oy. Construction is expected to start in the second half of 2026. A permit-and-agreement day is not a commissioned hall.

The power sentence must stay a source-claim sentence. The same notice says the project will benefit from 200 MW of immediately available power. That is the printed claim. It is not a measured live hall load and not an independent grid-operator certificate reproduced here.

The strategy sentence must stay a strategy sentence. Utajärvi is written as a cornerstone in AmpTank’s broader aim to scale to more than 1 GW of data-centre capacity across Finland, the Nordics and South America. The company also intends to open an Oulu office and to enter power-purchase agreements with new renewable projects. An ambition and an intention are not a signed PPA volume and not a second Finnish campus.

The next update would need a later primary source that names a construction start on the ground, a commissioned hall or a printed offtake that is not only the 200 MW claim. Until then, 200 MW stays the printed project figure — not a live Finnish hall.

Why it matters

A Finnish permit headline that prints 200 MW and a 1 GW ambition is easy to file as live northern-Finland hall power. The June notice is usable only if the permits stay permits — not a commissioned hall.

What remains unknown

The notice does not name a tenant, start construction on the ground or show a commissioned 200 MW hall.
