3i’s 11 March 2026 Lefdal paper is an agreed majority stake; completion is still expected

On 11 March 2026 3i Infrastructure said it had agreed to invest about €300 million to acquire a majority stake in Lefdal Mine Datacenter on Norway’s west coast. The campus has 37 MW operational capacity and a further 43 MW of contracted capacity under construction. Completion is expected in summer 2026. Expected is not closed.
3i Infrastructure’s 11 March 2026 notice is the dated ownership source used here. The company has agreed to invest about €300 million to acquire a majority stake in Lefdal Mine Datacenter, an operating campus on the west coast of Norway. Agreed to invest is not a completion notice. The same page says completion is expected in summer 2026. Expected remains a future tense.
Two megawatt sentences must stay split. Lefdal has 37 MW operational capacity across its customer base and a further 43 MW of contracted capacity currently under construction. Operational and under construction are different stages. This article does not add 37 and 43 into a third megawatt. Only one of six mine levels is currently utilised for data-centre capacity. Five unused levels are not published megawatts.
Cooling and power language stays qualitative. The company leverages its underground location and closed-loop seawater cooling. It benefits from Norway’s low-cost and robust power supply. Those are design and siting sentences. They are not a Statnett reservation printed as a number. A small portfolio of operating renewable assets is also being acquired; the overall 3i-managed investment will total about €400 million. Three hundred and four hundred are different envelopes.
The seller sentence is a fund, not a hall. Lefdal is being acquired from a fund managed by Columbia Threadneedle Investments. The largest investor in that fund will be reinvesting alongside 3i Infrastructure. Named Nordic campus rows stay separate. Green Mountain Hamar, Undheim, Halden and the Swedish files are different issuers. Thirty-seven megawatts at Lefdal does not become those sites.
DataCenterSweden records 11 March 2026 as an agreed Norwegian majority investment that had not yet completed on the notice. No Swedish project identifier is attached. The next update would need a later primary source that names completion, a changed megawatt or a commissioning of the 43 MW. Until then, summer 2026 stays an expected closing.
Why it matters
An agreed mine-campus purchase is easy to file as a closed 80 MW Norwegian hall. The March notice is usable only if 37 MW stays operational, 43 MW stays under construction, and summer 2026 stays expected.
What remains unknown
The notice does not publish a completion certificate, a customer list, or a megawatt for the unused mine levels.
